Justin Meko was named Amtrak’s Vice President Operational Safety in May of 2017. He works out of Amtrak’s National Training Center in Wilmington, DE. Justin joined Amtrak after working over 14 years at the Norfolk Southern Corporation, a class I freight railroad. At Norfolk Southern he served in a variety of roles across three regions, five divisions and in the Strategic Programs Office. Just prior to working at Amtrak Justin was serving as division superintendent of Norfolk Southern’s Illinois Division. His previous assignments include assistant trainmaster, trainmaster, manager of innovation, assistant terminal superintendent, terminal superintendent, and assistant division superintendent.
Justin is a United States Army veteran, working his way to the rank of captain in the U.S. Army’s Transportation Corps. In the Army he served as a platoon leader in a Cargo Transfer Company (CTC), a company executive officer also in a CTC, and a battalion adjutant in the 11th Transportation Battalion.
Justin graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN in 1999 with a BA in Government and International Relations. He attended the University of Notre Dame on an Army ROTC scholarship. While at Notre Dame he was a member of the football team earning a monogram in 1999.
