Dear Holtz’s Heroes Family,

Whenever I meet Notre Dame fans, many remember me from the 1992 “Snow Bowl”—that unforgettable game against Penn State.  Coach Holtz made the bold decision to go for a two-point conversion. Rick Mirer found me in the end zone, and we won 17–16. That moment lives on, and fans often talk about Rick and me as the playmakers who sealed that victory.

Over the years, I’ve come to understand something much deeper. I’ve met many playmakers long after my time on the field.

Playmakers drive the mission of our foundation forward.

Playmakers oversee Holtz’s Heroes Foundation’s accounting and ensure our nonprofit stays compliant.

Playmakers are the teammates who recognize not only the accomplishments of fellow teammates, but also the spouses and children of Holtz’s Heroes.

Playmakers drop everything when the call comes that a teammate is hurting and drive across states just to be there—to save a life.

Playmakers take time off from their careers to support Coach Holtz to ensure he arrives safely at our events, reunions, and games.

Playmakers show up just to give a hug—reminding us that our brotherhood is forever.

If you’ve ever thought your role was small—think again. The “ordinary” things you’ve done are actually extraordinary. You’re the real playmakers.

As we look forward to our upcoming Holtz’s Heroes Reunion, I hope you’ll join us in honoring those who have kept the mission of Holtz’s Heroes Foundation alive. Let’s come together—as teammates, as family—and recognize the many playmakers among us.

Love. Trust. Commitment.
